Studied at the Classical Double Bass at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary. Then, Jazz Double Bass with the world renowned Wayne Darling in Graz/Austria. Postgraduate studies followed at California Institute of the Arts having received a full scholarship with Charlie Haden, Darek Oles (bassist with Joe Lovano, Peter Erskine), Arnie Egilsson (Principal DB of the Paramount Filmstudios Orchestra). Jeff Berlin and David Carpenter on electric bass guitar, also with the internationally renowned Alan Broadbent and Joe LaBarbara.
Taught: Double Bass, Electric Bass, Music Theory, Aural awareness at CalArts during his Masters studies 1994-95; Electric Bass for the 1 week intensive courses at Bassist extraordinaire Jeff Berlin’s Playerschool of Music in Clearwater, Florida 1995-96; currently a Principal Lecturer at Leeds College of Music since 2001.
Regular performer on the Los Angeles Jazz scene during 1994-98, with the great guitarist Rick Zunigar from the Stevie Wonder Band, pianist Alan Broadbent from Charlie Haden’s Quartet West, pianist Kei Akagi from the Miles Davis Band, drummer Terry Lynne Carrington of the Wayne Shorter Band, drummer Alvin Quinn of the Oscar Peterson Trio, Saxophonist Brandon Fields of the Dave Weckl Band, and many other great Los Angeles Jazz musicians. Double/Electric Bassist for Disney Cruise Line during 1998-1999 World tour with Broadway Artists in 2000. Regular performer on the UK Jazz scene since 2001, including the BBC BigBand, Mike Gibbs, Norma Winstone, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Sinfonietta, Jiggs Wigham, Gilad Atzmon, Peter King, Tim Garland, Dennis Rollins’s Bad Bone&Co., Jamie Cullum, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Martin Drew and Ulf Wakenius of the Oscar Peterson Trio, Paloma Faith, Claire Teal, Anita Wardell.
Regular performer in West End shows, including: The Lion King, Wicked, The Book of Mormon, The Ratpack, Dirty Dancing, Legally Blonde and Shrek.
Radio appearances include: several BBC BigBand Specials with Claire Teal, Friday night is music Night with the BBC BigBand, Paloma Faith and Tony Christie.
Tv appearances include: National TV Awards 2012 for ITV1 with the Bruce Forsythe BigBand.
Appeared at numerous International and National Jazz Festivals including: Glastonbury, Marbella Int. Jazz Festival, Berlin Int. Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, The South Bank Spring Music Festival, Soﬁa Peak, Turin Int Festival, Salzburg, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Birmingham, Manchester Jazz Festivals.
Awards include: Second place at the International Society of Bassists Jazz competition in 1991; Full Scholarship to California Institute of the Arts in 1994; BBC Jazz Awards Best band with Dennis Rollins’s Badbone & Co in 2006.
